With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joseph Robert Abbott (Tar Heel, North Carolina), who passed away on March 12, 2026 at the age of 65. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his daughter Crystal Abbott Coffman; his mother Norma Smothers; and his grandparents, Woodrow and Mildred Hester. He is survived by: his wife Elisa Abbott; his daughter Amanda Abbott Murillo; his son-in-law Andy Murillo; his grandchildren, Conner Coffman, Andru "Javi" Murillo and Aaron "Kobe" Murillo; his siblings, Allen Smothers (Shirley) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Tommy Smothers (Misty) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrtle Rose Hester of Dublin, NC and Hilda Kinlaw of Dublin, NC; and his sister-in-law Wanda Smith of Clinton, NC. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation or the SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals.
