He was predeceased by: his parents, Muriel and A. James; his wife Octavia Ann Armstrong; and his siblings, Teddy, Thurman, Lee Staton and Elsie Marie James.
He is survived by: his son Michael B James (Kim); his grandchildren, Amy Casteel (Joseph) of Pinetops, Jackson of Pinetops, Riley of Pinetops and Zachary James of Pinetops; his sisters-in-law, Brenda Dickson (Ronnie) of Tarboro and Brenda James of Washington; and his nephews, Tee, Matthew James, Pete and Chip Dickson. He is also survived by several great nieces and a great nephew.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers and food, may be made in David's memory to Penders Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
