He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Whitley and Mittie Webb Whitley; his wife Mildred Summerlin Whitley; his son Gregory Whitley; his brothers, Rufus, Melvin, Clifton and James Whitley; and his great grandchildren, Phillip Michael and Peyton Micah Taylor.
He is survived by: his sister Helen Whitley Wilson of Tarboro, NC; and his children, Danny Whitley (Deborah) of Rocky Mount, NC, Debbie Corbett (Wayne) of Crisp, NC, Andra Speight of Four Oaks, NC, Shelia Whitley and Chad Whitley of Pinetops, NC. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
