He was predeceased by: his parents, Rolande MacDougald Fountain and Vinton Earl Fountain, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Fountain of Raleigh; his children, Tracey Hall (Michael) of Raleigh, Shepherd Mac-Dougald Fountain of Raleigh, Vinton E. Fountain III (Clayton) of Wilmington, Leslye F. Plummer (Brett) of Raleigh and Michelle C. Brewer of Little Washington; his grandchildren, Clayton Merritt, Mary Grigg Meacham, Perry Fountain, Layne Brewer, Mary Claire Bechler and Fischer Plummer; and his great grandchildren, Alice Merritt, Dayre Merritt and Suzanne Meacham.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 B. Saint James St., Tarboro, NC 27886.
