He was predeceased by: his parents, Ollie Lee Smith and Susannah Jones Smith; his daughter Missy Parson; his grandson Antwan Millsaps; and his siblings, Mary Oliver, Sylvester Smith (Frances) and Linell Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Howell Smith; his son Franklin Howell; his grandchildren, Davanta Lackey, Shakyra Smith and Kiron Howell; and his siblings, Lila Jackson (Generette), Sallie William (Hercules), Margaret Rhames (Kevin), Elijah Oliver Jr. (Rhonda) and Blannie Lee Smith. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
