He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph H. Southerland and Lillian James Southerland; his sister Mary Faye Southerland Mobley; and his siblings-in-law, Wayne Brock and Betty Sue Gidden Hill (Glenn Hill).
He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Giddens Southerland; his son James "Bart" Barton Southerland (Kimberly); his niece Cindy Mobley Jarrett (Richard); and his sister-in-law Althea Brock. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family.
