He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy Grant Koonts and Clara Mae Saintsing Koonts; his sister Kathy; and his brother-in-law Ronnie Sechriest. He is survived by: his wife Peggy Louise Rickard; his children, Shane William Koonts (Kelly), Paige Clarissa Koonts and Derek Wayne Koonts (Alisha); his grandchildren, Kirsten Snow, Cole Tesh, Emma Claire Tesh, Bryson Adelman, Sam Tesh, William Koonts and Andrew Koonts; and his siblings, Alan Koonts (Laura), Vicki Smith (Gary) and Lisa Clark (Kevin).
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM at the Zion Church (130 Hasty School Rd, Thomasville, NC 27360). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
