He was predeceased by: his parents, Delpha Scott Stanley and Lucy Ann Iman Stanley; and his brother Michael Stanley. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Vest Stanley; his sons, Steve Stanley and Jody Moore of Lenoir; his daughter-in-law Kim of Trinity; his stepdaughter Joan Dockery of Wallburg; his grandchildren, Sabien Stanley, Shane Hinson, Bethany Dockery and Jaelynn Dockery; and his siblings, Tim Stanley of Asheboro, Delpha Scott Stanley of Wallburg, Brenda Jessie of Trinity and Debbie Turner of Thomasville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
