He was predeceased by: his parents, James Richard "Dick" Hayes Sr. and Helen "Jackie" Howard; and his brother James "Jimmy" Hayes. He is survived by: his wife Renee Hayes; his children, Ashley Hayes, Kayla Hulin (Chuck) and John Edward Hayes II; his stepchildren, Edward Dewayne Suggs, Mandy Sorge (Rohan Mandadi) and Rebecca Sorge; his grandchildren, Ridley, Vera Suggs, Layla, Leena Mandadi, Alec and Elin Hulin; and his sister Suzanne Hayes Stephens (Chris). He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Cedar Lodge Baptist Church (1305 Cedar Dr, Thomasville, NC 27360).
