He was predeceased by : his mother Eleanor Mae Harris McMillan; his grandfathers, Woodrow Kapp and Melvin Sherwood; his son Jason Rittermeyer; and also Etta Mae Kapp.

He is survived by : his father Rev. James Roy Sherwood, Sr.; his wife Martha Rittermeyer; his daughter Shara Rittermeyer; his grandson Matthew Hill; his stepmother Katherine Sherwood; his siblings, Glenn Sherwood (Ivy), Lynn Myers (Jeffery), James Roy Sherwood, Jr. (Doug), Michelle Rivers (Earl) and Chrystal Duncan (Chris); and his pet Caddy. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
