He was predeceased by: his parents, William Robert and Myrtle Burgess Herndon; his granddaughter Kandi Marie Herndon; and his siblings, W. R. Herndon, John Herndon, George Herndon, Paul Herndon, Grace Combs, Violet Colough, Mary Ward and Annie Ruth.
He is survived by: his wife Dianne Yarborough Herndon; his children, Jody Herndon (Theresa) of Timberlake, Dwayne Keith Herndon of Butner and Tonya Herndon Crabtree (Jimmy) of Franklinton; his siblings, Charles Herndon and Marie McCorkle (Pete); his grandchildren, Dwayne Herndon II (Emily), Noelle Herndon (Johnny), Eli Herndon, Kaitlyn Steele (Daniel), Andrew Crabtree (Destiny), Matthew Crabtree (Erin), Dylan Herndon (Lena) and Casen Herndon; and his great grandchildren, Logan, Maci of Ava, P. J., Aria, Sage, Chandler and River. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
