He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Clarence and Bertha White Smith; his wife Nancy "Helen" Gambill Smith; and his siblings, Blanche Elledge, Grace Hayes, Deborah Smith, Darnell Billings, Annie Billings, Jerry Smith and J. C. Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon Scearce (Todd) of Hays, Pam Wiles (Rodney) of Traphill and Claude Keith Smith (Karen) of Traphill; his grandchildren, Tabitha Hudler (Jason), Zach Scearce (Erica), Dustin Smith (Monica), Heather Church (Landon) and MaKayla Thomas; his great grandchildren, Tyler, Hudler, Karlee Smith, Jaycee Mae Smith, Darcee Smith, Tatum Scearce, Cadence Scearce, Laila Church, Hyde Church, Lettie Church, Kohyn Thomas, Norah Thomas and Kamdyn Thomas; his siblings, Barbara Eller of Millers Creek, Wannie Crysel of Wilkesboro, Peggy Pruitt of North Wilkesboro, Kay Fox of Asheville, C. L. Smith of Hays, Archie Smith of North Wilkesboro and Jessie Smith of North Wilkesboro; and his pet Merley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home (270 Armory Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 8th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Chapel (270 Armory Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659). A burial will be held on Sunday, November 8th 2026 at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery (2583 Absher Rd, Traphill, NC 28685).
