He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy Joe and Sadie Mae Wilmoth Childress. He is survived by: his wife Sherry Goss Childress; his children, Casie Childress of Boomer and Timothy James Childress (Sarah) of Roaring River; his grandson John Gray Livingston; and his siblings, Teresa Brown of Hays, Mitchell Childress of Hays and Joseph Childress of Wilkesboro.
