Shaw Pettigrew; her children, Lane Pettigrew (Guatemala), Eric Pettigrew of London, UK and Julie Ellis of Charlotte, NC; and her grandchildren, JC Briganti of Greenville, SC, Lizzy Pettigrew of Los Angeles, CA, James Pettigrew of Brooklyn, NY, Catherine Pettigrew of Brooklyn, NY, Roman Pettigrew of Portland, OR, Josh Ellis of Boston, MA, Jenny Hahn (Germany) and Jessie Coe (United Kingdom). She was also cherished by her family, her grandchildren, and now three great-grandchildren.

Jean was named "Teacher of the Year" in Region VIII, NC for her outstanding contributions to the education of academically gifted students.
