We announce the death of Lila Hancock Corpening of Tryon, North Carolina, who passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 90. Lila will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Lila will be remembered for the impact she had on the lives of those around her. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Lila’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was predeceased by: her parents, James Hancock and Lillie Stutts Hancock; and her husband Gay S. Corpening. She is survived by: her sons, Michael Corpening, Gaden Corpening (Aline) and Bryan Corpening (Jennifer); her grandchildren, Matthew Corpening (Erica) and Monique Corpening; her great grandchildren, Ariella and Zaiah Corpening; and her niece Pat Hancock Brown.
In lieu of flowers or as a memorial, donations may be made to Tryon Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, or to Foothills Humane Society.
