We announce the death of John Edward Thomas of Unaka, North Carolina, who passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 64. John Edward will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Van E. Thomas and Roseda Thomas; his brother Van "Skip" Thomas (Zena); and his grandson Jax. He is survived by: his wife Julia; his children, John Edward II, Daniel (Jacqui) and Amanda (Shawn); his grandchildren, Pearl, Isabella, Cody and Emma; and his close friend Sheltie Buster.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's memory to the Valley River Humane Society.
