He was predeceased by : his parents, Shirley Augustus (Boots) and Lois Sanders Small; his son Mark Small of Valdese; his grandchildren, Lindsey Greene (Trevor) of Bethlehem and Hayley Small of Hickory; and his great grandchild Nolan Greene of Bethlehem.

He is survived by : his brother Robert Small (Anne Small).
