He was predeceased by: his father Woodrow Darrell Harkey; his grandparents, Grady, Rachel Loftin, Hillard and Martha Leatherman; and his father-in-law Jim Houser.
He is survived by: his mother Judy Loftin Harkey of Lincolnton; his wife Michele Hull Harkey; his daughters, Jamie Harkey of Vale and Jessica Harkey of Vale; his granddaughter Kennedy Dellinger of Vale; his siblings, David "Charlie" Harkey of Vale, Karen Queen (Larry) of Lincolnton, Julie Dunbar (Todd) of Lincolnton and Janet Benton (Gray) of Lincolnton; and his mother-in-law Joyle Houser of Vale.
