She was predeceased by : her parents, Marion C. Cayton and Sally Jones Cayton; her husband Marvin Mills; and her siblings, Wilbur Cayton (Mamie Ruth), Lillian Grandchamp (Joe), Dorcus Highsmith, Arlene Gurganus (Sellers), Seth Stanley and Kenneth Stacey.

She is survived by : her nieces and nephews, Brad Cayton, Beth Buck of Greenville, Stan Highsmith (Sharon) of Florida, Paula Foster of Rhode Island, Diane Peaden (Jimmy) of Greenville, Al Cayton (Wanda) of Winterville, Billy Grandchamp (Sue) of Rhode Island and Wayne Grandchamp of Rhode Island; her brother-in-law Bill Highsmith of Greenville; her caregiver Gina Bonner; her close friend Sybil McLawhorn; and her caregiver Wanda Ross. She is also survived by children of her own, she was a second mother.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Pinewood Memorial Park (4150 E 10th St, Greenville, NC 27858). A graveside service was held on Friday, April 12th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
