He was predeceased by : his parents, John Vernon and Gladys Briley Vernon; his wife Bonnie Whitley Vernon; and his siblings, James Alfred Vernon and Peggy Edmundson.

He is survived by : his children, Johnny Vernon of Greenville and Jo Ellen Hudson (Robert Ayden); his grandchildren, Chelsie Hudson, Robert Hudson, III (Irene), Lauren Lang (Dustin), Cayla Vernon and Cole Vernon; his great grandchildren, Kenleigh Garris, Harper Garris and Alex Hudson; and his siblings, Ronnie Vernon of Texas, Sharon Edmundson of Fountain and Betty Maness of Ayden.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 4th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Wilkerson Funeral Home & Crematory - Greenville (2100 E 5th St, Greenville, NC 27858). A graveside service was held on Thursday, April 4th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Pinewood Memorial Park (4150 E 10th St, Greenville, NC 27858).
