He was predeceased by : his father Daniel Rush "Tom"; his wife Frankie Dellinger Bess; and his siblings, Paul Bess, Bruner Bess, Wayne Bess, Tom Bess, Sethelle Hoyle, Sue Dycus and Maxine Wilson.
He is survived by : his children, Roxanne Bess, Tony Bess (Sheila) and Star B. Shipley (Mike); his grandchildren, Joshua Bess, Xerek Shipley and Kai Shipley; his sister Jeanette Bridges; and his siblings-in-law, Jack Dellinger, Gay Ramsey and Kathy Carpenter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
