He was predeceased by: his parents, Worth Melvin Collier and Lona Matthews Collier; and his brother Larry Melvin Collier. He is survived by: his wife Janet W. Collier; his son David A. Collier (Kelly G. Collier) of Wade; his granddaughter Taylor C. McPhail (Eric McPhail) of Wade; his great grandchild Luke McPhail; his siblings, Otis Collier (Linda Collier) of Smithfield and Ann C. Horne (Johnny Horne) of Stedman; his siblings' children, Ray Collier (Fran) of Deep Run, Amy Prakke (Mark) of Raleigh, Adam Horne (Felicia) of Stedman and Stephen Horne of Stedman; his caregiver Linda Brewington Thompson of Wade; his siblings-in-law, Herman Warren (Brenda) of Washington, NC and Dixie Honeycutt of Dunn; and his siblings' children, Angela Warren (Ricky) of Dunn, Ginger Johnson (Brian) of Dunn and Lee Honeycutt (Julie) of Dunn.
In 2000, Wingate was inducted into the Cumberland County Agricultural Hall of Fame, a prestigious recognition for residents who have made significant contributions to agriculture and the rural community.
