He was predeceased by : his parents, Lester Carpenter of Washington and Lula Harrington Carpenter; his wife Nancy Bell Carpenter; his daughter Angela Ratliff; and his siblings, Midge Carpenter, Lib Simpson, Marlene Morris, Bob Carpenter and Freddy Carpenter.

He is survived by : his son Daniel Carpenter of Lilesville; his grandchildren, Nicholas Hancock of Mt. Croghan, SC, Amanda Ratliff of Lilesville, Jonathan Carpenter of Lilesville and Emily Carpenter of Lilesville; and his siblings, Jean Pruitt of Conway, SC, Frank Carpenter of Lilesville and Harvey Carpenter of Lilesville. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
