He was predeceased by: his parents, Harlee Weldon Pope and Vivian Tyson Pope; his aunt Jewel Pope; his son-in-law Travis Matthews; and his brothers, Felton Pope and Rick Pope.
He is survived by: his wife Gail Ellis Pope; his children, Regina Matthews (Adam Payack) of Wadesboro and David Pope, Jr. (Hailey) of Albemarle; his grandchildren, Brittany Gravitte, Thomas of Salisbury, Amanda Chisholm (Todd) of Wadesboro, Harlee Matthews of Wadesboro, Keeley Sullivan (Trevor) of Wingate and Rieley Johnson (Connor) of Jacksonville; his great grandchildren, Nathan, Brycen, Dawson, Decklyn, Evelynn and Hudson; and his brother-in-law Mark Herring of Charlotte.
