He was predeceased by: his parents, Veta Burris and Leroy Carpenter Senior; his wife Christine Carpenter; his son Gerald Snuggs; and his siblings, Cora Cunningham, Nan Currie, Ethel Richardson, Leroy Carpenter Jr., Clarence Carpenter, Benny Carpenter and Willie Manning.

He is survived by: his children, Joannie Edringston (Myron) of Garner, NC, Carla Carpenter of Greensboro, NC, Valerie Prince of Albemarle, NC and Kerry Snuggs (Marcia) of Concord, NC; and his brother-in-law Earl Smith of Lompoc, CA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
