He was predeceased by: his parents, Joshua Alston and Katie Powell Alston; and his siblings, Joshua D. Alston, Samuel D. Alston, Eliza Mae Watson and Evelyn Zollicoffer.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Freeman Alston; his children, Joseph K. Alston of Washington, DC and Alyssa Alston (Tamesha Eley) of Baltimore, MD.; his grandson Logan Eley-Alston; his sister Geraldine Barrett Hawes of Raleigh, NC; and his sister-in-law Treva Alston of Laurel, MD. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
