He was predeceased by: his wife Norma Stillwell "Babe" Whitaker; his parents, James Robah Whitaker and Carrie Walker Whitaker; his son James Edward "Jimmy" Whitaker; and his siblings, Roy Whitaker and Jackie Rich.
He is survived by: his daughter Jana Donese Whitaker (Dirk) of Raleigh; his grandsons, Tyler Ewing and Nathan Ewing; and his siblings-in-law, Shirley Whitaker and C. G. Stillwell (Paula). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
