He is survived by: his significant other Michael O'Brien; his niece Cynthia Suomalainen Sher; his nephews, Gerard Suomalainen, James Suomalainen, John Suomalainen and Brien; and his close friends, Nancy Dubois and Renee Compton.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, Penland School of Crafts of Penland, NC, and Piedmont Craftsman of Winston Salem to assist the academic studies of future artists.
