He was predeceased by: his parents, Archibald "Archie" Johnson Atkins and Lala Pearl Asbury Atkins; and his siblings, Dennis, Junior, Norvell, Regina Chestnut, JoAnn Gibbs, Peggy Tawney, Dolores Miller, Shirley Good and Lionel.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Mae Whited; his grandchildren, Ashby (David Evans), Crystal (Kenneth Heath), Emily (Matt Carr) and Kenneth Taylor; his niece Sandra Day (Joey Woolard); his sisters, Carolyn Tawney and Pat Moore; his grandsons, Stephen Atkins, Jason Nobles, Thomas Atkins, David Evans, Kenneth Heath and Joey Woolard; and his friend Lord.
In lieu of flowers and food, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the church Curtis co-founded decades ago, Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church, his home away from home.
