He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Mathis and Billie Jean Mathis; and his brother Tommy Mathis. He is survived by: his wife Teresa Mathis; his children, JD Mathis (Audrey Mathis), Eddie Mathis (Samantha Curlee), Heather Asmann (Tracy Asmann) and Evahlyn Lekan; his grandchildren, Adaline Mathis and Devan Lopez; and his siblings, Ed Mathis, Juana Mathis, Coot Mathis and Bill Mathis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held on Sunday, June 22nd 2025 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Waynesville Recreational Park Pavilion (234 W Marshall St, Waynesville, NC 28786).
