He was predeceased by: his parents, James Haywood and Julia Troutman Saunders; and his brother Jimmy Saunders. He is survived by: his wife Rose Marie Smith Saunders; his children, Wayne Saunders, Billy Saunders (Susan), Phyllis Rogers (Gerald) and Pamela Burrell (Steve); his grandchildren, Krystal Jillson, Becky Kinney (Mark), Mark Rogers (Camie), James Buckner, Nathan Rogers (Kendall) and Aaron Saunders; his great grandchildren, Jakob Levalley, Izak Kinney and Abraham Kinney; his son Clifford Buckner (Deana); and his brother Charles "Gene" Saunders. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Ivy Creek Baptist Church (21 Ivey Baptist Rd, Weaverville, NC 28787).
