He is survived by: his wife Elaine Marshall; his sons, Michael Mason Powdermaker (Deborah), Mark Matthew Powdermaker (Tami) and Miles Mitchell Powdermaker (Molly); his grandchildren, Leanne, Zachary, Elliott and Oliver; his brother Alan Powdermaker; his stepchildren, Kristen (Jim) and Bryan (Terra); and his stepgrandsons, Lyman and Wyatt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Meals on Wheels of Asheville-Buncombe County, where Mark and Elaine volunteered together, or to Animal-Kind International, an organization whose mission reflected his lifelong compassion for animals.
