He is survived by: his daughters, Karen Timmons Ellison (Leslie) of Gastonia and Leslie Timmons of Seattle, Washington; his grandson Gordon Ellison (Lauren) of Burlington; his sister Lelia "Timmy" Anmore of Freeport, Illinois; and his sibling's children, Baxter Turnham of Freeport, IL and Ruth Stokes Vega.

The family suggests donations in Richard's memory to Indian Trail Presbyterian Church (200 Indian Trail Rd, Indian Trail, NC 28079).
