He was predeceased by: his parents, Pugh Ray and Josephine Smith Ray; and his brothers, Tommy, Wiley and Roland Ray.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Puryear Ray; his siblings, JP Ray, Glenn Ray and Ava Ray; his sons, Carl Ray Jr. and Jerry Ray; and his grandsons, Christian Ray and Anthony Ray.
