With sadness, we share the passing of Michael Anthony Hartzog of West Jefferson, North Carolina. Michael, born on April 29, 1964 in Jefferson, North Carolina, passed away on October 27, 2026. He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Phillip Hartzog and Beulah Goodman Jones; and his brother Phillip Hartzog. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Powers Hartzog; his sons, Matt Hartzog (Heather) of Crumpler, Jason Hartzog of West Jefferson and Brandon Grant of West Jefferson; his stepdaughters, Hannah Hartzog (Ricky) of West Jefferson and Emily Hartzog of West Jefferson; his mother-in-law Shirley Powers; and his siblings, Ricky Hartzog (Norma) of Lansing, David Hartzog (Byron) of Asheville, Dianne Shumate (Harold) of Crumpler and Debbie Osborne of Sparta. He is also survived by grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel (3470 U. S. Hwy 221 N, Jefferson, NC 28640). A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 at the Obids Country Church Cemetery (194 Obids Baptist Church Rd, West Jefferson, NC 28694).
Because community outreach was so deeply important to him, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to his cherished organization: Ashe Harvest Ministries, 7376 NC 16 South, Jefferson, NC.
