He was predeceased by: his parents, William Ransom "Will" Mitchell and Bertha Lou Hutchens Mitchell; his siblings, Sarah Lou Mitchell Rogers, Frances Ann Mitchell Frans, James William "Bill" Mitchell and Jesse Thomas "Tom" Mitchell; and his grandson Matthew Gavin Mitchell.
He is survived by: his wife Anita Cochran Mitchell; his children, John Mitchell (Sharon Bennett) of Davidson, Robert Mitchell (Jessie Tucker) of Winston-Salem and Julie Slate (Jonathan) of Westfield; his grandchildren, John William, Elizabeth Mitchell of Davidson, Jonah Slate (Bailey Jackson) of Winston-Salem, Jarrett Slate (Abby Isom) of Lawsonville, Elsa Mitchell of Chapel Hill, Truman, Fletcher and Archer Mitchell of Winston-Salem; and his sister-in-law Helen Bondurant Mitchell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and several other family and friends.
