We announce the death of Vilas Payne of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, who passed away on October 9, 2026, at the age of 88. Vilas will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Payne and Hazel Greene Payne; and his siblings, Katherine Payne, Vaughn Payne, Glenn Payne and MacDonald Payne.
He is survived by: his wife Stena Payne; his daughters, Angelika R. Teague (Jim) of Wilkesboro and Misti Payne Coffey (Jody) of Watauga County; his grandchildren, Adam Foster (Anna), Luke Foster (Kristy), Marley Coffey and Brody Coffey; his great grandchildren, Charlotte Joy, Georgia Ruth, Boone Walton, Riverlynn Kate and Hudson Bentley; and his sisters, Carol Politte and Janette Hollar (Bob).
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel (196 Fan Key Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
