With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Aristea Petalas Markatos (Wilmington, North Carolina), born in Brooklyn, New York, who passed away on February 5, 2023 at the age of 100. She was predeceased by: her parents, Gerasimos S. Petalas and Helen Phillipou Petalas; and her sisters, Nause Petalas Balafas and Rosa Petalas Niforos. She is survived by: her son Gerasimos Leonidas Markatos (Cathy) of Pittsboro, NC; her grandchildren, Betty (Austin) and Dennis (Kristine); her daughter Artemis Markatos Dixon (Dail); her grandson Mark (Jodi); and her great grandchildren, Finn, Andrew, Leo, Kristopher, Ione Rose, Leila and Zack. She is also survived by The grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
