He was predeceased by: his father Edgar Johnson; his former wife Gennie Holder; and his daughter Beth Johnson Nurnberger. He is survived by: his wife Wanda; his daughter Sara Johnson Winters (Jeff) of Durham; his son-in-law Walt Nurnberger of Cornelius; his stepchildren, Teresa Hegler (Julian) of Raleigh and Steve Scott (Melissa) of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Maygen Nurnberger Logan (Marc), Kelsey Nurnberger Slate (Weston), Hannah Nurnberger Weinstock (KG), Walter Nurnberger, Stephen, Brian, David Winters, Ashley Lowen (Rocky), Colby, Henry and Logan Hegler; Colling Scott (Katherine Barefoot). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
