Cheryl S. Lancaster Obituary
The family is beyond saddened to share the news that Cheryl Lancaster unexpectedly and peacefully went to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
Cheryl was born in West Virginia and raised in Ravenswood, a small town in the mountains. She grew up there until she was 17, at which time she moved to the Wilmington area and graduated from Hoggard High School.
After high school, Cheryl met and got married to Scott Lancaster on May 24, 1992. They made Wilmington, NC their home for 27 years. During this time, they raised two beautiful daughters, Taylor and Jordyn. She was an incredibly dedicated and loving mom and wife to her family. She was extremely proud of her kids and all they did, and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them. Cheryl supported her kids in many ways but encouraged them to pursue their passions most of all and helped them to become the best person they could be.
Cheryl was a long-time member of Scott's Hill Baptist Church where she professed her Faith in Christ in 2002. Cheryl also worked for Scott's Hill Preschool for over 20 years. After Scott's Hill Preschool, she moved to Eaton Elementary to continue her passion for teaching children. Although she only worked there for a short time, she adored her students. In her "off" time she was heavily involved in the Coastal Cowboys cheer team, of which her daughters, Taylor and Jordyn were a member of that squad. Her endless and tireless devotion to the kids that she coached/taught can best be summarized by what she wrote recently.
It's not about the trophies, the winning, the scores. The love, the bonds, the obstacles we overcame, the encouragement, and even the failures are what make us who we are. These girls have done all this and much more. They have created bonds that I hope will last a lifetime. And created so many memories that they will cherish. I wouldn't have changed one minute of their time together. On to National, we go to create even more cherished memories.
Cheryl was such a bright and loving soul, her smile lit up every room she walked in. She cared for every person she ever met and pushed through for her kids. She had a shining heart, and it was clear to every person and kid she ever taught. No matter how hard she struggled, she still smiled at everyone and welcomed them in with open arms, making them feel loved and accepted and never wanting to let them go.
She is survived by her mom, Patsy Sauers, and dad, Richard Sauers, her three siblings, niece, and nephews, and many, many friends. As well as her two children, Taylor and Jordyn Lancaster. While there are too many to name, we would like to acknowledge Rob Bentfield and his wife Jamie Bentfield, who have been friends of the family for years.
