He was predeceased by: his parents, William Downs Harkness and Jean Smith Harkness; and his brother William Harkness. He is survived by: his wife Betty-Ann Bell Harkness; his children, Megan Hart (Dan), David John Harkness II (Dana) and Scott William Harkness (Melissa); his brother Michael Harkness (Donna); his sister-in-law Peggy Harkness; and his grandchildren, Charlie Hart, Emma Harkness, Ella Hart, Scotty Harkness II and David John "Davis" Harkness III. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
