Frances Outlaw Obituary
Frances "Bunny" Odom Outlaw. Frances Leslie Odom Outlaw, 84, died on Saturday, June 21st in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born June 20, 1941 to Arcy Thomas and Dorothy Smith Odom, she was called "Bunny" and was universally known by that name for the rest of her life. She grew up in Bolton, attended, and in 1959 graduated from Acme Delco School. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Rex Hospital School of Nursing in 1962, and worked as a surgical nurse early in her career. Later she enjoyed working with patients and their families as a Home-Health provider. In September, 1962, she married Robert Russell Outlaw, with whom she shared a bond that was unique between married people for the next 62-plus years. From the beginning, they were almost constantly together, and in the last years, inseparable. True to the last, he was with her when she died. Together, they lived in many diverse places, from Holland, to Mexico and Brazil, and a number of places within the United States, most recently in Savannah, Georgia. From her earliest days, Bunny was a devoted animal lover, adopting any kitten or puppy she could, and lending her interest to other activities supporting and protecting animals. In addition to her beloved Bob, she leaves her daughter, Leslie Elizabeth McDowell and her husband, Terence Scott (Terry) McDowell, who live in Riegelwood. She also has three grandchildren: Ashley Michelle Sherry and her husband, Max, both serving with the US Air Force in Arizona; Lauren Elizabeth McDowell of Riegelwood, and Brent Edward McDowell, of Wilmington. There is one great granddaughter, Harper Mae Sherry, who is waiting with her parents for a sister, whose appearance is anticipated for the 1st week of July. In addition to her parents, Bunny was predeceased by a sister, Skyler Odom Griffin. She is survived by a brother, Russell Odom of Durham and his wife, Vickie; several nephews and a niece; her uncle, Earl Smith of Lake Waccamaw; and a large number of cousins.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Andrews Mortuary on Market Street, Wilmington. There will be a private Service of. Interment for the family at Shiloh Memorial Methodist Church in Bolton later.
