He was predeceased by: his parents, Kathleen Matheny and Cloyce Matheny; his brother Steve; and his son Michael. He is survived by: his siblings, Gilbert Matheny and Kathleen Houston; and his siblings-in-law, Kay Wolf and John Houston. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Samaritan's Purse.
