She was predeceased by: her parents, Walter Morris and Irene Huntington Morris; her husband David Martin Abernathy Jr.; her brothers-in-law, Ralph Karn and Dave Richards; her son-in-law John C. Owens; and her grandson Ryan C Owens.
She is survived by: her children, Karen Owens of Oak Island, Drew Abernathy of Wilmington and Richard Abernathy of Texas; her granddaughters, Alyson Abernathy (Robert), Courtney Cox (Jason) and Brittni McDougald (Patrick); her siblings, Sally Richards and Larry Morris (Joanna); and her sister-in-law Carole Karn.
