He was predeceased by: his parents, David Witherspoon and Mildred Witherspoon; and his siblings, Conrad Witherspoon and Judy Jones. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy; his children, Karen Garris (Alan) of Wilmington and Richard (Kelly) of Burgaw; and his grandchildren, Matthew Garris, Jessica Lovette (Thomas), Jillian Garris, Katie English (Ivey) and Jeffrey Witherspoon (Caroline). He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
