He is survived by: his wife Ellen Sauer Downie; his children, Kate Downie, Maggie Downie (Matt Atwater), Helen Odell (Josh) and William Downie III (Jeanette); his grandchildren, William Downie IV, Quentin Odell, Joanna Downie, Matthew Odell and Caleb Odell; and his pet Bowie.
