He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert H. Atkinson and May Katherine Thompson Atkinson; and his siblings, May K. Ball, Albert Atkinson and Frank Atkinson.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret "Peggy" Atkinson; his children, Keith W. Atkinson (Susan) of Martinez, GA, Kenneth J. Atkinson (Diane) of Wilmington, NC, Denise A. Clark (Ben) of Mendon, VT and Karen High (Andy) of Garner, NC; and his sister Ann Loper (Bob) of St. Petersburg, FL.. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
