He was predeceased by: his parents, Elder Kemp Atkinson and Emma Shelly Atkinson. He is survived by: his children, Corey Atkinson of Conetoe, NC, Kemp Atkinson III of Farmville, NC, Wanda Artis of Wilson, NC and Latonia Atkinson of Farmville, NC; and his siblings, Elder Donnie Atkinson of Macclesfield, NC, Bobby Ray Atkinson of Crisp, NC, Emma J. Joyner of Farmville, NC, Joan James of Wilson, NC, Hilda Atkinson of Farmville, NC, Linda Torres of Wilson, NC and Joanne Baker of Farmville, NC. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 25th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Barnes Funeral Home (4120 S Hathaway Blvd, Sharpsburg, NC 27878). Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Bethlehem Association Center (3033 Bynum Farm Rd, Pinetops, NC 27864). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 26th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
