He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Gardner and Ida Mae Rogers Gardner of Wilson County; his sons, Anthony and Jeffrey Gardner; his grandson Andrew Gallant; his siblings, Louise Hubbard, Annette Peed, Katherine Gardner, Ervin Gardner and Leland Gardner; and his former wife Judy Carol Speight Gardner.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Walston Gardner; his sons, David Proctor, Chris Gardner (Christine) of Southern Shores and Michael Gardner of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Alexandra Batschelet (Trey) of Manteo, Harrison Gardner of Charleston, SC, Scottie Gardner (Lauren) of Louisburg, Hannah Gardner of Greensboro, Chandler Gardner of Wake Forest and Nicholas Gardner; and his daughter-in-law Beverly Gardner of Wake Forest.
