He is survived by: his wife Sarah Cleo Applewhite; his children, Clyde Applewhite (Kimberly) of Wilson, NC, Octavious Ferguson of Neptune, NJ, Linda Blount (Lester) of Westampton, NJ, Brenda Brewington (Lamont) of Wilson, NC, Jacqueline Phillips (Keith) of Piscataway, NJ, Sharon Jones (Robert) of Wilson, NC and Mary Cathy Collins of Wilson, NC; his siblings, Elizabeth Williams of Wilson, NC, Carol Cherry Earle (William) of Chesapeake, VA, Gloria Parker of Wilson, NC, Fannie Applewhite of Wilson, NC and Douglas Applewhite of Wilson, NC; his aunt Eleanor Compton of Washington, DC; and his siblings-in-law, Daisy Credle (Hubert) of Bayboro, NC, Mattie King of Far Rockaway, NY, Jean Ruffin of Wilson, NC, Lugene Williams of Durham, NC and William Anderson of Kenly, NC. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
